June is National Safety Month

Updated: Jun 11, 2018

This month, the National Safety Council focuses providing information to decrease the causes of injury at home, at work, and on the road. Each week focuses on one main topic: Emergency Preparedness, Wellness, Falls, and Driving.

At Blue Hills we believe that prevention is a key component to your overall health.

This week's main topic is to plan for possible emergencies. It is important to research and prepare for common disasters to strike in your area. In the South Bay area, the most common disasters to occur are earthquakes and fires.

Here are some ways to plan for possible emergencies:

  • Create an emergency kit for both your home and car

  • Create a home emergency plan with your family and learn how to shut off your utilities

  • Be a good participant in emergency drills at work and school by following instructions and paying attention to lessons earned

  • Store important phone numbers, including those of family members, with other important documents in a fire-proof safe or safety deposit box

  • Learn first aid and CPR for children and adults
